Story

Love Zuri is a heartfelt family drama inspired by the real-life journey of a father learning to understand and connect with his autistic daughter. Omar and Sarai are loving parents doing their best to navigate life with five-year-old Zuri, a bright, curious girl whose autism shapes the way she experiences the world. When Sarai leaves for a work trip, Omar is left to care for Zuri on his own for the first time—something he’s quietly feared he might not know how to do “right.”
But during a moment that startles them both, something unexpected happens: Zuri communicates through song, revealing a hidden bridge between her world and his. That breakthrough becomes the heartbeat of their relationship, opening Omar’s eyes to the beauty, intelligence, and emotional depth Zuri has been expressing all along.
More than a story about parenting, Love Zuri explores how love grows when we choose to listen differently, when we challenge our assumptions, and when we allow each other to exist without forcing “normal.” It shines a light on the unique challenges faced by Black families raising neurodivergent children, and the ways communities often misunderstand or overlook them.
At its core, Love Zuri is a celebration—of Zuri’s magic, of the strength of family, and of the joy that comes from embracing neurodiversity with compassion, patience, and pride. Inspired by the creator’s real daughter, the film honors her brilliance and invites audiences to see the world through her rhythm, her music, and her light.
